In 2022, CNOOC initiated a technical upgrade for the buoy lifting system aboard its CNOOC 115 FPSO. Four Brothers Rope responded by establishing a dedicated engineering team to address this challenge. That same year, the company launched an R&D project focused on SPM mooring equipment, with particular emphasis on pick-up rope design and system integration.
The Powerneema® HMPE SPM pick-up rope features an innovative construction that joins two rope segments of significantly different diameters through specialized engineering methods. This creates a continuous line with a engineered transition from thick to thin sections. The design ensures minimal slippage under load, providing reliable performance and enhanced safety during critical lifting operations.
Following comprehensive testing, the system was commissioned in September 2023. On September 28, it successfully completed the FPSO’s repositioning, meeting all technical specifications and earning positive operator feedback.
