Four Brothers Rope Introduces Digital Mooring Rope Lifecycle Management Solution at COSCO SHIPPING Global Conference

On 26 June, the 2026 Global Partners Conference, jointly hosted by COSCO SHIPPING (Hong Kong) and COSCO SHIPPING (Hainan) and co-organised by COSCO SHIPPING Technology, was successfully held in Boao, Hainan.

During the event, Four Brothers Rope (FBR) presented its “Product + Service + Digital Intelligence” integrated lifecycle solution for mooring ropes, as one of the five highlighted innovation solutions showcased at the conference.

The solution was introduced through a combination of technical presentation, media engagement, and on-site demonstration, attracting strong attention from shipowners, maritime partners, and industry media.

FBR’s solution is developed based on long-term operational experience and a deep understanding of critical challenges in mooring applications, including complex usage conditions, lifecycle uncertainty, and safety management requirements.

The system integrates three core components:

>> FIRM Intelligent Management Platform
A certified digital system enabling full lifecycle tracking, condition monitoring, and structured management of mooring rope assets across vessels and fleets.

>> ID-Tag Digital Traceability System
Each rope is equipped with a unique digital ID tag, enabling real-time identification, operational transparency, and full traceability from deployment to retirement.

>> Three-Party Collaborative Digital Framework
A connected ecosystem linking shipowners, onboard crews, and suppliers, enabling real-time data exchange, proactive alerts, and closed-loop lifecycle management.

Together, these elements enable a shift from traditional inspection-based management to a data-driven, predictive, and traceable operational model.

The solution aims to improve operational safety, regulatory compliance, and lifecycle cost efficiency, supporting shipowners in achieving more controlled and transparent mooring operations.

During the conference presentation, FBR also shared two long-term operational references demonstrating the reliability of its solutions:

One case involves the early application of ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) fibre ropes on VLCC vessels, where FBR pioneered the replacement of steel wire mooring lines with high-performance synthetic ropes. These ropes have remained in continuous service for more than 17 years, demonstrating extended durability under demanding offshore conditions.

Another reference highlights large-scale deployment across very large ore carriers (VLOCs), where FBR mooring ropes have been operating under high-load and high-frequency conditions for over five years. Continuous monitoring confirms that remaining strength levels remain compliant with international standards, with no recorded rope failure or related operational downtime across the fleet.

These long-term field applications provide strong validation for the performance stability and safety reliability of FBR rope systems in large commercial shipping operations.

As digitalisation and decarbonisation continue to reshape the maritime industry, lifecycle-based asset management is becoming increasingly important for operational efficiency and risk control.
